About Fuel-Saving Truck Aerodynamics! "Aerodyne Global Ltd"

What is AERODYNE?

Aerodyne was established in 1979 by Ambrose Kingston, an engineer who was running a logistics company and experiencing many of the same problems faced by fleets of all sizes today – how to save fuel, increase profits, and enhance vehicle appearance. In order to reduce the fleet’s fuel consumption, research was carried out on the various fuel-saving devices available. After extensive road tests and vehicle monitoring, the effectiveness of these devices was proven; Aerodyne acquired global rights and began selling these products, whilst developing many other solutions for the UK and then globally.

THEY HAVE A TEAM DEDICATED TO PROVIDING THE SOLUTIONS THAT THE LOGISTICS COMPANY NEEDS!!!

The Theory of Truck Aerodynamics is very wonderful and practical that if it will be applied to every nation we will all see the good effect to our Economy and Business. It says The overall shape of a vehicle is measured as the Coefficient of Drag, (Cᴅ). By enhancing the aerodynamic shape of a truck and therefore reducing the drag resistance, improves the flow control around the vehicle. Drag reduction devices do this, saving engine power and therefore fuel whilst give the vehicle a steadier ride.

Typical Cᴅ figures in the automotive world are as follows:

NOTE: There are many types of truck aerodynamic devices available, below you will find the most common ones.

Typical Cᴅ figures in the automotive world are as follows:

Vehicle TypeTypical Cᴅ
Best in class production car0.22 +
HGV without Truck Aerodynamic Devices0.7 – 0.9
HGV with Truck Aerodynamic Devices0.6 – 0.7

Adding aerodynamic devices will reduce the Cᴅ, and this is typically measure in counts, (1 count = 0.001 Cᴅ). In the car world, aerodynamicist’s will look seriously at improvements with 1 or 2 counts, this could be a result of very small detail e.g. the wheel or tyre design. In comparison, well designed HGV aerodynamic devices can reduce the Cᴅ by 10 – 20 counts, providing a significant improvement.

FUEL-SAVING ANALYSIS OF YOUR FLEET WITH AERODYNE

Potential Fuel savings range approximately between 4 and 20% depending on a number of factors including:
  • Vehicle weight
  • Average speed of the vehicle
  • Proportion of urban / rural journeys
  • Exposed body / trailer height above the cab
  • Exposed body / trailer width outside the cab
  • Cab to body trailer gap
The potential Return-On-Investment (ROI) or  payback period can typically vary from 4 to 15 months, or more, depending on a number of factors, including the initial investment, the fuel saving and the annual mileage. With the average life of a fleet vehicle being 3-5 years, fuel-saving aerodynamics is a very worthwhile investment, helping you to save money whilst reducing your carbon footprint, and preserving the environment

In my opinion this company is very promising and will provide better solution to the transportation and logistics industry now and in the future with their Fuel Saving Device!!

Also I want to thank Sir James Kingston for giving me the chance to post this to my blog. Thank you Sir James!
